So my current domain dani19.com is expiring in two months and I think it’s time to move on. If you read the “about” page on my blog you’ll know that “dani19″ originates from my first web user name almost 10 years ago (scary thought), and it’s conveying less and less meaning these days.
So the new website url will be nduan.com. dani19.com will continue to function (hopefully) until it expires end of March.
So time for another site refresher. Adopted Daleri Sweet theme from Andreas Viklund.
Have not been blogging for a while – not that busy, but mind is preoccupied with other things.
WordPress 2.5 has been released, and is a major update with lots of changes. The most obvious is that the dashboard has been reorganized, and now looks cleaner.
I’ve yet to feel out all the details, but features like one-click plugin upgrade (instead of just notifying you that there’s newer versions) make 2.5 even more automated and easier to use. Lowering the tech learning curve is definitely the direction for wordpress to head to achieve real mainstream.
I’m having a mild cold, but it’s making me depressed. Besides there’s been a lot of issues at work.
Anyhow, I decided to change my blog theme again – the former greenish thing was fancy but got tiring very soon. Back to minimalism.
今天blog终于好了，于是一不留神花了很多时间在上面。
做了这么几件事情：
一直想添一个像样的索引。wordpress什么都好，就是自带的archive模版太弱，对于我这种已经有600+篇文章的blog非常不好用。以前用的ela插件在wordpress 2.3不能使用了，于是换用了SRG Clean Archives。但是又有一个问题，SRG是只显示按月的档案的，而我需要一个按类别的档案。搜索了一阵子，没有找到什么合适的插件，但在wordpress官网上看到了一些讲category的文章，于是决定DIY，把默认的category档案显示更改一番。
立即遇到的一个问题是，我的全局设定里默认每页只显示6篇文章，而我不知道该怎样为category档案单独修改。又一番google，看到了两种解决方案，一种是在category.php里手动更改代码<?php get_header(); query_posts( 'posts_per_page=-1&cat=' . $cat ) ?>另一种是使用custom query string插件。怎奈原先的CQS插件不支持wordpress 2.3，好在有个博友为其做了升级。
但是测试中又遇到了问题，发现有的页面显示正常，有的侧边栏则没有了。经过一些测试，认定问题出在中文的文章上。于是想到了我在用的中文wordpress工具箱。将其deactivate，重新测试有问题的页面，果然显示正常，只是中文的文章无法正常截断，显得很难看。又一轮google，看到了这篇文章，一个对工具箱的简单优化。
问题几乎完全解决，只是我新进添加的sharethis插件在这些档案页无法正常显示（仍然是截断的问题）。于是索性把其由自动改为手动，并在index.php和single.php两页上添加了代码。本来档案页也不需要那么多sharethis。。。何况我这blog的访问量，估计一年都不会有一篇被保存。。。
p.s.我现在虽然在上班但是完全在怠工。。。所以。。。
After quite a few days of downtime, thanks to my great server paangood.com (which charge me 50 RMB a year, btw), my blog is finally up and running again.
For those of you who are actually visiting this site instead of reading the RSS feed, you’ll notice that the look has changed dramatically. Personally I don’t like the new colors so much, but I like the layout of this theme. I’ll hang on to it until I find something better. Give me your comments.
It’s conventional wisdom that you don’t appreciate something until you’ve lost it; but it’s very true in my case regarding this site. I kept writing everyday, in fear that those movie reviews will pile up, but it felt lonely writing to myself. Not that I have many visitors, but the feeling of writing something that truly no one else can see is against my writing instincts.
Anyhow, hope things are really going well for the server this time. I need to write a new year’s resolution, and a 2007 year-end reflection (boy do I have a lot to say), but let’s take it step by step.
So here’s something NOT to do.
Ever since upgrading to wordpress 2.3, I’ve been noticing that my fancy little archives page has been going amok, and furthermore I get all sorts of errors when I’m writing posts. Thinking that my database has been corrupted, I pulled the plug and reinstalled my entire site.
Which took me about 2 hours, up till now. Then I find that things are still wrong. So I go and do a little research, and what do you know, there’s been database changes in 2.3, that’s why things don’t work anymore: the plugin is incompatible…
So I’ve yet again wasted my time on this stuff… And now my site isn’t even fully restored… Whatever.
Caused the site to be down for about half a day.
